PetroChina to import 200,000 tons of gasol
BEIJING (XFN-ASIA) - PetroChina Co Ltd, the country's largest oil and gas producer, plans to import around 200,000 tons of gasoline in April to meet domestic demand, the official Shanghai Securities News reported, citing oil trading sources.

The imports are partly in response to shortages of some petroleum products in parts of the country, especially in southern China.

The National Development and Reform Commission has urged PetroChina and Sinopec (NYSE:SNP) to increase output and ensure market supply, although the two oil majors cannot as yet pass on thier full costs to end-users.

Crude prices rose to over 100 usd per barrel recently. At the same time, China caps the prices of oil products to hold down inflation.

China suspended the 17 pct value-added tax charged on imported fuel between December and March to deal with fuel shortages.
